Sightseeing

Palamidi

An impressive fortress that towers above the city, offering breathtaking views of Nafplio and the Argolic Gulf. Palamidi was built by the Venetians in the 18th century and is accessible via a staircase with 999 steps.

Bourtzi

A small islet with a castle at the entrance of Nafplio’s harbor. Bourtzi was built by the Venetians in 1473 and was formerly a fortress for protecting the city from pirates.

Archaeological Museum of Nafplio

Housed in a historic Venetian building in Syntagma Square, the museum hosts findings from the wider Argolis region, covering the prehistoric era up to classical times.

Acronafplia

A rock with a fortress that offers panoramic views of the city and the Argolic Gulf. Acronafplia is the oldest acropolis of the city and has been inhabited since prehistoric times.

Mycenae

One of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, Mycenae is located about 20 kilometers north of Nafplio. Here you can see the Lion Gate, the Treasury of Atreus, and the ruins of Agamemnon’s palace.

Epidaurus

About 30 kilometers east of Nafplio, Epidaurus is known for its ancient theater, which is one of the best-preserved ancient theaters in Greece and still hosts performances during the summer. In the same area is the Sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidaurus, an important archaeological site dedicated to Asclepius.
